God is the Supreme Being,
Creator of all things and He reveals Himself as a community
of Persons. "Let us
make man in our image and likeness" (Gen.1, 26). Throughout
the Bible we discover the names of God as Father, Son and Holy
Spirit. This God in three Persons is shown in the work of creation
and in the salvation of the world. The Father sends the Son to
the world to save it; the Son becomes man to announce to the
whole world the will of the Father and returns to Heaven. The
Father and the Son send the Holy Spirit to inspire and strengthen
the Church so that it may bring to fulfillment the work of redemption
till the end of times. The final order of Jesus to his disciples
was: "Go to the whole world, teach all what I taught
you and baptize them in the name of the Father and of the Son
and of the Holy Spirit" (Mt. 28,19). To comprehend
how the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit are three different
Persons and, at the same time, they are only one God, is a mystery
that goes beyond the limits of our reason; but it is a truth
that is clearly shown in the Bible. This is what is commonly
known as the mystery of the Holy Trinity. Jesus Christ is the
Son of God, made man and born of the Virgin Mary 2000 years ago.
Throughout the 33 years of His life, but especially during the
last three years, He announced to the world a message of salvation.
He founded the Church calling upon 12 men whom He called Apostles.
He appointed Peter as the head of the Apostles and He gave them
the order to take His message throughout the world. For this
reason the Church is called Catholic (Universal).
